Casablanca City Tour: Stops of the Day

Stop 1: The Hassan II Mosque

To begin with, you visit the Hassan II Mosque, built between 1987 and 1993 on the edge of the ocean. In fact, about 25,000 people can pray inside and 80,000 more on the esplanade.

Inside, you also see the carved cedar wood, the marble and the zellige made by craftsmen from all over Morocco. Then your guide explains the history of the building and its huge prayer hall. Afterwards, you walk on the esplanade by the ocean.

Stop 2: The Corniche, Anfa and Ain Diab

Then you drive along the Corniche, Casablanca’s Atlantic seafront. Soon you pass the villas of Anfa, a modern district whose name goes back to the old town of Anfa. Later, you also stop at a viewpoint over the ocean for photos.

Stop 3: The Habous Quarter

After that, you walk in the Habous quarter, built between 1917 and the 1950s in a mix of Moroccan and European styles. There you also find bookshops, olive stalls and craft shops under white arcades. In addition, you have free time to shop or taste Moroccan pastries.

Stop 4: The Mahkama du Pacha

Then, next to the Habous, you see the Mahkama du Pacha, built between 1941 and 1952 by the architect Auguste Cadet. In fact, its halls and patios are full of carved stucco, cedar wood and zellige. However, the inside opens only on some days, so your guide checks before you go.

Stop 5: Notre-Dame de Lourdes and the Art Deco Centre

Then you visit Notre-Dame de Lourdes, a church finished in the 1950s and known for its stained glass. Soon you walk around Mohammed V Square and United Nations Square, with their Art Deco buildings. In fact, Casablanca has one of the richest Art Deco centres in Africa.

Stop 6: The Old Medina and the Sqala

Finally, you walk through the Old Medina to the Sqala, an 18th-century fortress with its old cannons. Later, you pass Rick’s Café before your driver takes you back to your hotel. As a result, you end the day by the port, close to where the city began.
