8 Days Trek from Draa Valley to M’hamid Dunes

We will start our day after breakfast by driving through the High Atlas Mountains which presents breathtaking vistas of both valleys and mountains. We will pause in Ouarzazate for a stop before heading to Zagora which serves as the sand dune’s threshold. Next we will transfer to a 4×4 vehicle to navigate safely through the palm-filled Draa Valley so you can see the picturesque oases together with kasbahs that stand throughout the terrain. The camel drivers who will lead us on our trek will greet us in Faija. You will have time to get ready for the upcoming adventures after completing your settlement.

The camel trek has begun today. The early morning will start with organizing our equipment on the camels before beginning our expedition. Typical desert plateau scenery along with Saghro and Banni Mountains mountaintops will emerge during our journey toward Hamada. The area keeps growing more isolated as we advance so you will see the minimal vegetation while possibly catching sight of nomadic Bedouin tents far onto the horizon. Our journey continues after lunch in an oasis followed by a break before we start moving towards our initial camp spot along dried streambeds. We will reach the campsite right when the Sahara sets its amazing sunset colors which you can experience while taking in the desert’s magnificent scenery.

We progress towards Erg Chegaga dunes throughout the fourth day of our journey. Patrons of our trek experience the Abbes pass viewpoint which reveals endless Sahara sand dunes extending toward endless horizons. The trip leads us through multiple desert regions where we will witness endless landforms consisting of moving dunes and inhospitable treeless plains. Approaching Chegaga generates a sense of excitement for exploring among the largest dune complexes of Morocco. We will establish our camp beneath the dunes near their base while enjoying a tranquil evening overshadowed by starlight. When you visit this desert you will experience its authentic nature because the enormous dunes tower above everything and you can see the endless sky.

As morning breaks we will begin walking towards Bougarne’s isolated dunes from our restful night spent under the stars. The expedition starts at smaller Chegaga sand dunes before leading to the walk towards Bougarne dunes. The desert section where we travel remains hidden from most tourists so we can discover untouched wilderness among few visitors. The Tamarisk trees provide shaded protection for us to rest while we have a local traditional lunch. We will arrive at Bougarne during nighttime to continue our camping session within the sand dunes. This location displays extraordinary peace and the sunset offers among the most peaceful experiences throughout the journey.

During day six visitors can rise early to experience Bougarne dunes sunrise before having a beautiful start to their desert day. The group will carry on walking after eating breakfast into an enormous rocky plateau that provides desert solitude. The late afternoon will provide the access to the Oued Naam dunes which serves as our daily destination. This campsite is ideal because of the extensive wilderness that contains smooth untrampled sand dunes. We will spend time at camp after our setup to both relax and think about our travels while taking in the silent environment ahead of the upcoming adventure.

During our last trekking day we will walk through desert scenery until we reach M’hamid which marks the end of villages before desert terrains. From the existing path we jump to a 4×4 vehicle until our return back to Zagora through the Draa Valley. We will stop for lunch in between the journey since the route offers awe-inspiring views that deserve one more look before we return to Marrakech. Our journey will finish when we arrive in Marrakech at the end of the late afternoon. You’ll obtain a short period to relax within the city prior to leaving.
