3 Day Desert Tour from Agadir: Itinerary
Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Erg Chigaga
To begin with, your driver picks you up at your hotel in Agadir at about 7:30. Before long, you reach Taroudant, often called the little Marrakech. There you also see its earthen ramparts and its busy medina.
After that, you continue to Taliouine, a village famous for its saffron. Then you stop for lunch in Taznakht. After that, you drive to Foum Zguid, where the asphalt ends.
From here, your 4×4 follows desert tracks to Erg Chigaga. At the camp, you get a cool drink and ride a camel for about one hour at sunset. Finally, you enjoy dinner and Berber music at your desert camp.
Day 2: A Full Day in the Erg Chigaga Desert
If you wake early, climb a dune to watch the sunrise. After breakfast, you set off on a camel trek of about four hours, with a break for lunch. Along the way, you also cross dunes, stony plains and small oases.
Meanwhile, your guide tells you about the life of the desert nomads. Later in the afternoon, you return to the camp to rest. If you like, you can also try sandboarding on the dunes.
Later in the evening, you share dinner at the camp. Finally, you spend a second night under the stars.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga – Lake Iriqui – Taroudant – Agadir
Then, after breakfast, you leave the dunes by 4×4. Soon you cross Lake Iriqui, a dry lake bed known for its mirages. You follow the tracks of the old Paris–Dakar rally to Foum Zguid.
Then you stop for lunch in Taznakht. After that, you drive back through Taliouine and Taroudant. Finally, you reach Agadir in the evening, and your driver drops you at your hotel.
Expert tip from our driver-guides
If you travel in late October or November, ask to stop in Taliouine early in the morning. At that time, families pick the purple saffron flowers at dawn. In addition, bring a warm layer, because desert nights are cold in winter.
