Why Choose This Christmas Tour in Morocco

This Christmas tour in Morocco swaps grey winter days for sunshine, kasbahs and a night under the Sahara stars. To begin with, you explore Marrakech with a local guide. Then you cross the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and the gorges, before two nights in the Erg Chebbi dunes around Christmas.

Throughout the week, you also travel with your own English-speaking driver in a private 4×4. As a result, you can adapt the dates to your flights, for example from 22 to 28 December. In fact, the holidays are high season, so camps and riads fill up early.

However, if you prefer to celebrate the new year in the dunes, see our New Year desert tour. Also read our guide to Christmas in Morocco.

Christmas Tour in Morocco: Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

To begin with, your driver meets you at Marrakech airport and takes you to your riad. Then you have free time, for example for a first walk to Jemaa el-Fna at sunset.

In the morning, a licensed guide shows you the Koutoubia, the Bahia Palace and the souks. Then you visit the Majorelle Garden. In the evening, many riads serve a festive dinner, so ask us to book it.

Then you cross the High Atlas on the Tichka pass and visit Ait Ben Haddou. After lunch, you pass Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses. In the evening, you reach your hotel in the Dades Valley.

In the morning, you walk in the Todra gorge. Then you drive to Merzouga and ride a camel into the dunes for sunset. Later, you enjoy dinner and music at the desert camp.

After sunrise on the dunes, you explore the desert by 4×4, with nomad families and Gnawa music in Khamlia. In the afternoon, you can try sandboarding, before a second night in camp under the stars.

Then you leave the dunes and drive west through the oases and the Draa Valley. In the evening, you sleep in a hotel in Ouarzazate.

Finally, you cross the High Atlas again and reach Marrakech in the afternoon, in time for your flight or an extra night.

Expert tip from our drivers

Book as early as possible, because the Christmas week is one of the busiest of the year. In addition, pack a warm jacket and a hat, since desert nights are close to freezing in December. Also, snow can close the Tichka pass for a few hours, so we keep a little extra time on driving days.
