The best time to visit Morocco is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is mild in the cities and pleasant in the Sahara. However, every season has something to offer, from snowy Atlas peaks in winter to cool Atlantic breezes in summer. Here is a simple month-by-month guide.
Best Time to Visit Morocco at a Glance
| Season | Marrakech and cities | Sahara | Atlas Mountains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring (Mar–May) | Warm, ideal | Ideal | Green, snow on peaks early |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Very hot | Very hot | Best for trekking |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | Warm, ideal | Ideal | Pleasant |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Mild days, cold nights | Sunny days, cold nights | Snow, cold |
Spring: March to May
To begin with, spring is the favourite season for most travellers. The desert is warm, the Atlas valleys are green, and roses bloom in the Valley of Roses in May. Therefore, book early, especially around Easter.
Summer: June to August
Then summer is hot inland, often above 40 °C in Marrakech and the Sahara. However, the Atlas and the coast stay cooler, so it is a good time for treks and for Essaouira.
Autumn: September to November
Meanwhile, autumn brings warm days and quieter roads, which makes it ideal for desert tours and long loops.
Winter: December to February
Finally, winter is sunny and quiet, although nights are cold in the desert and the mountains. Christmas and New Year are busy; see our Christmas tour and the New Year desert tour, and read Morocco in winter.
Ramadan and Holidays
In addition, Ramadan 2027 is expected around February and March; tours run normally, but some cafés close by day. Read Ramadan in Morocco.
Best Time for a Desert Tour
For the Sahara, choose March to May or September to November. For example, the 3-day tour to Merzouga or the calmer 5-day Merzouga tour.
